ChatGPT to Become Fastest-Growing App, Estimated to Have Gained 100 Million Monthly Active Users in January

ChatGPT, a popular AI language model created by OpenAI, has achieved remarkable success in a short period of time. A recent study by UBS has estimated that ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly active users in January, just two months after its launch, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history. The study, which used data from analytics firm Similarweb, shows that an average of about 13 million unique visitors used ChatGPT per day in January, an impressive increase from the December figures.

OpenAI made ChatGPT available to the public for free in late November, providing users with the opportunity to use a sophisticated AI language model to generate articles, essays, jokes, and even poetry. However, with the growing popularity of the tool, OpenAI has incurred substantial computing costs, which is why the company recently announced a $20 monthly subscription service for users in the United States only. The subscription will provide a more stable and faster service, as well as the chance to try new features first. The subscription revenue will help cover the computing cost and support the continued development of ChatGPT.

The rapid growth of ChatGPT has also provided valuable feedback that has helped train the chatbot's responses. As a result, OpenAI has been able to continuously improve the accuracy and efficiency of ChatGPT, making it an even more valuable tool for users.

However, the growing popularity of ChatGPT has raised concerns about the potential for academic dishonesty and the spread of misinformation. As more people use the tool, it's important for OpenAI to implement measures to prevent misuse and ensure the reliability of the information generated by ChatGPT.
