WhatsApp's new privacy feature locks sensitive chats and hides them from notifications

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to lock individual chats, providing enhanced privacy and security for sensitive conversations. The feature, called Chat Lock, enables users to move a chat to a specialized folder that can only be accessed through biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint or face scan, or by entering a password. The contents of locked chats are automatically hidden from the notifications feed, adding an additional layer of confidentiality to the conversation.

The Chat Lock feature is designed for users who may share their phones with family members or friends, ensuring that private conversations remain confidential. This feature is particularly useful for those who want to prevent an awkward situation if someone else is holding their phone when a sensitive chat arrives.

To lock a chat, users simply need to tap on the name of the one-on-one or group chat and select the lock option. To access the chat, they must enter their password or complete a biometric scan. WhatsApp has also provided the option to apply biometric authentication to lock the entire WhatsApp application.

The Chat Lock feature follows WhatsApp's recent efforts to strengthen user privacy, including its recent introduction of disappearing messages. With this new feature, WhatsApp is continuing to demonstrate its commitment to user privacy and security.

"Privacy is an essential part of our service, and we continuously strive to provide our users with enhanced privacy and security options," said a WhatsApp spokesperson. "Chat Lock is a feature that empowers users with greater control over the confidentiality of their conversations, ensuring that sensitive information remains private."

The Chat Lock feature is now available to all WhatsApp users globally and can be accessed through the app's settings.
